Sandals Ochi, Jamaica

After another frigid winter in Virginia—and yet another round of wedding industry shutdowns—I was more than ready for a change of scenery. So when I came across a travel deal that felt too good to pass up, I booked it without hesitation: three nights at Sandals Ochi in Jamaica for just $1,500, all-inclusive. It turned out to be exactly the kind of warm-weather reset I didn’t know I needed.

From the moment I landed in Montego Bay, Sandals set the tone for what would become one of the most relaxing trips I’ve ever taken. I was greeted with champagne at the Sandals airport lounge, then whisked away on a 45-minute drive to the resort in Ocho Rios. And yes—more champagne awaited me there. I had officially arrived.

A Butler Experience Like No Other

Upon check-in, I was introduced to my butlers, Patrick and Tevin—and I honestly can’t say enough good things about them. These two didn’t just provide exceptional service; they elevated the entire experience. Whether it was scheduling activities, surprising me with thoughtful touches, or making sure everything in the room was perfect (wait until you see what they did on my last day), they embodied what hospitality should feel like: personal, warm, and joyful.

As someone who works in events and loves helping others celebrate love, I could tell Patrick and Tevin feel the same pride in their work. They didn’t just serve—they cared. And it showed.

The Cottage Life (and Chef’s Kiss Dining)

My private cottage was the definition of luxury: a secluded suite with its own plunge pool, a serene lounge area, a plush bedroom, and a spa-like bathroom complete with a tranquility soaking tub. I spent my first day exploring the property and getting to know the lay of the land, which included access to six unique restaurants—each one with its own vibe and menu.

But one meal stood above the rest.

At the Manor House Restaurant, I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Joseph, who went completely off-menu to craft a personalized, three-course dinner that felt more like an experience than a meal. It began with a beautifully plated bruschetta, followed by a comforting bowl of corn porridge—his take on a dish that reminded him of Sunday mornings growing up in Jamaica. For the main course, he brought out sweet-and-spicy shrimp and grits alongside oxtail so tender it practically melted off the bone. Chef Joseph even came to our table to explain each dish and the story behind it. I’ll be going back to Sandals Ochi for his food alone.

Play, Pampering, and Photos

When I wasn’t eating like royalty or lounging by the pool, I tried my hand at sailing, indulged in a relaxing massage, and even had a little personal photoshoot around the resort. Every moment felt curated and intentional, without ever feeling rigid or overly planned. It was the kind of trip where time slows down, and you finally remember how to exhale.

Safe Travels in Uncertain Times

Traveling during a pandemic comes with its own set of challenges, but Sandals made it easy to feel both comfortable and safe. With strict protocols and required negative tests for all guests, it felt like being quarantined on a private island—in the best way possible. Every detail, from cleanliness to service, made it clear that the resort was committed to both luxury and peace of mind.

This trip reminded me that even when the world feels uncertain, it’s still possible to find moments of joy, adventure, and connection. Sandals Ochi, thank you for making it all feel effortless.
