Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi

After wrapping up a season of celebrations, I traded sound checks for sea breezes and boarded a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu—a quick five-hour hop that felt like stepping into another world. Hawaiʻi had long been on my list, and this trip brought all the magic I’d hoped for: a warm welcome on the water, an unforgettable wedding, rich history, and epic drives around one of the most stunning islands on earth.

If Oʻahu isn’t on your travel radar yet, consider this your sign.

Touchdown in Paradise

There’s something surreal about stepping off the plane in Honolulu. The air is softer. The light hits different. After scooping up a rental car (essential if you want to explore beyond Waikīkī), I headed straight to check in and shake off the jet lag.

But there was no time to slow down—this wasn’t just a vacation. It was the beginning of a celebration.

A Wedding Welcome by Boat

The weekend kicked off in style with a sunset welcome reception aboard a private catamaran. Cruising along the coast, with Diamond Head in the distance and a breeze strong enough to toast the moment, we raised glasses and danced as the sun dipped below the Pacific. There’s just something about greeting friends on open water with champagne in hand that makes everything feel elevated. It was the perfect start to what would be a truly unforgettable weekend.

A Wedding at Kualoa Ranch: Jurassic Vibes, Real Romance

If you’ve ever seen Jurassic Park, Lost, or 50 First Dates, you’ve glimpsed Kualoa Ranch—but photos don’t do it justice. Nestled between emerald cliffs and the ocean, it’s one of the most iconic wedding venues in the world for good reason.

The celebration itself was electric. As a wedding DJ, I’ve seen just about every type of venue and vibe—but this one hit different. From the ceremony under towering palms to the full-throttle dance floor that roared into the night, it was the perfect blend of elegance and unfiltered joy.

Cruising Oʻahu: From North Shore Waves to South Shore Views

With the formalities complete, it was time to explore. The best way to see Oʻahu? Windows down, playlist up. The island isn’t massive, but every mile offers a new scene. I highly recommend making a full loop around the island—give yourself a full day to do it right.

We drove past legendary surf spots on the North Shore like Waimea Bay and Banzai Pipeline, stopped for garlic shrimp from a roadside truck, and cooled off with shave ice in Haleʻiwa. On the Windward Coast, we pulled over constantly to take in the views—turquoise waves crashing against volcanic cliffs, and palms swaying with cinematic timing.

The roads around Kahana Bay and Lanikai Beach made it hard not to pull over every five minutes. Trust me: give in to the impulse. You won’t regret it.

For the History Nerds: Pearl Harbor

As someone who appreciates the historical weight of the places I visit, a trip to Pearl Harbor was essential. It’s somber, powerful, and meticulously preserved. Walking the decks of the USS Missouri and standing above the resting place of the USS Arizona is a humbling reminder of the lives and stories that shaped this island—and our world.

If you go, book tickets ahead of time, get there early, and take your time. It’s not just a tourist stop—it’s a sacred space.

Final Thoughts

Oʻahu is more than a postcard—it’s a story. Of lava and legend. Of surf and soul. Of celebrations that bring people across oceans to toast together under the stars.

From a boat party welcome to a cliffside "I do," from winding coastal roads to quiet moments at Pearl Harbor, this trip was unforgettable in every way. If you're planning a wedding, a honeymoon, or just need a getaway that checks every box—Oʻahu is calling.

Just don’t forget your shades, your sense of wonder, and someone to share it all with.
