Adventures in Atlanta
Atlanta will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s a city that blends Southern charm with big-city energy—and when it comes to weekend getaways, The Big Peach serves it up with flavor, flair, and a whole lot of fun.
If you're planning a trip, here's how I'd do Atlanta in 48 hours.
Friday
Once you land at Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL)—a place I’ve come to know well—you’ll immediately feel the pulse of the city. It’s the world’s busiest airport, but also one of the most efficient. Hop on the MARTA and head straight downtown.
Check into the Westin Peachtree Plaza, a 72-story icon right in the heart of the city. The views alone are worth it—but make sure to head to the top for dinner at The Sundial Restaurant, where you’ll take in 360° views of Atlanta as the city lights come to life.
After dinner, keep the night going with a stop at one of my favorite speakeasies: The Red Phonebooth. Yes, you’ll need a secret code to get in—and yes, I might just share it if you ask nicely. Once inside, order the Smoked Old Fashioned. It’s their signature cocktail for a reason.
Saturday
Start your day with a walk along the ever-growing Atlanta Beltline—a vibrant loop of trails, murals, breweries, and bites. Begin at Krog Street Market for coffee or a casual bite, then make your way north toward Ponce City Market, with a few fun stops along the way. You’ll find outdoor patios, skyline views, and maybe even a local artist painting a new mural on the underpass walls.
After an afternoon of walking, shopping, and sipping, head back to the hotel to refresh before a night out in Virginia-Highland. It’s one of Atlanta’s coolest neighborhoods and the perfect place for evening cocktails.
Two of my favorites?
Neighbors – for its laid-back, local vibe
Dark Horse Tavern – especially on Live Band Karaoke night. If you’ve got the chops, show up before 9PM to get on the list. (And yes, I’ve been known to sneak in a song or two.)
Sunday
Before heading home, close out your weekend with brunch in West Midtown. I always recommend West Egg Café. Be warned: there will be a wait. But trust me—it’s worth it. Grab a brunch cocktail while you wait and soak in that final slow morning of the weekend.
From the Beltline to rooftop cocktails, and speakeasies to singalongs, Atlanta is one of those cities that’s always evolving—and always worth the trip.
