Commitment to Community

a leader in the community

Being active in the community is part of our DNA. We are proud to stand by our values and love working with folks that share our values. We believe black lives matter, love is love, and women’s rights are human rights. We also believe in lifting up the voices of the marginalized, helping in the community by raising money for local food banks, and doing our part to advocate for certain issues.

Being an advocate

We have come a long way since 2020. You may remember that year we were faced with a global pandemic and a great reckoning for how race has place role in our nation’s history. We marched in the streets and demanded justice for black lives, we fought to change laws, and we took a stand to make the world more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. One thing we did here at Bow Tied Weddings was take a pledge to stop romanticizing Plantations. Through conversations with fellow wedding professionals, like our friend Terrica (she is a great resource on many topics), many of us decided we were no longer going to accept bookings at Plantations. We also visited Whitney Plantation in New Orleans, the only Plantation in Louisiana that tells the story of it’s land entirely from the perspective of the enslaved. They have taken on a huge role in the conversation about ending Plantation weddings and it was a pleasure to speak with them about how we can do our part to do the same. Feel free to ask our thoughts!

Giving back

People gotta eat. That’s why we got involved with Food Banks. Since 2018, we have been producing a series of events where we partner with local breweries who donate $1 per beer for local food banks. It started out as an event at one downtown brewery in Richmond, then became a brewery tour around the southeast, through the pandemic, and circled back to this year being a monthly event at Richmond breweries. More than raising money for food banks, we try to get our fellow wedding professionals to join us at our local food banks to volunteer when they can. From working in prep kitchens to sorting food going out to assisted living homes, there are many ways you can get involved. Ask us how!

Our values

We have never shied away from our values. We believe in cultivating a diverse, equatible, and inclusive environment. We firmly believe that Black Lives Matter, Love is Love, Science is Real, Women’s Rights are Human Rights, No Human is Illegal, and Kindness is everything. We believe these values should be embraced by everyone as basic human decency. Whether you're providing wedding services or saying "I do," we want everyone to know that we aim to work with wedding professionals and couples that support diversity, equity, and inclusion. You can always find a link to our values on our homepage!

None of this new for us, but we are always evolving. If you would like to be an advocate, give back, and get involved, we will always welcome partnerships. Dance in our DMs on social media or send us an email at weddings@bowtiedweddings.com.
